There’s always a bit of a dance when you write a shared character like Iron Man. I inherited a more “ground level” Iron Man and I was grateful for it. When his armor got bashed in our first issues - it stayed banged up. Juan’s design for the armor was perfect, and it was always drawn as distressed during our very tense first issues.
When our story necessitated that Tony play possum and hide the fact he was still Iron Man it was an opportunity to introduce a new stealth armor the Mark Nil.
Juan’s designs for the stealth armor were fantastic. I want Lego Mini-figures of all these designs. So, in our book, Darren Shan, yours truly and all our artists put Tony Stark and his friends through hell. Part of that was a throwback to the great armor wars of yore. His technology was perverted into Feilong and Orchis’ sentinel program.
And how’s he going to win the day? By better engineering, of course. We have a few tricks up our sleeves that we won’t be talking about, but it’s time to proudly unveil the Mark 72.
When we commenced Jed, and Tom and everyone on the Avengers team accommodated us by using the Mark Nil and our status quo, and we were grateful they did. we hope you all enjoyed the show. Pepe Larraz needed to start next year’s big event BLOODHUNT before we had designed the armor in Iron Man for our third act. We were always building towards the MARK 72: Mysterium Armor in our story, and because Pepe was going to need to draw it first, and because he and I have a pretty good shorthand, we were thrilled he could design it.
The results are stellar. The final turnaround model is below. I believe it will also be a cover on a future issue of our Iron Man series.
And here’s the Mysterium armor’s first cover appearance courtesy of Kael.
If you’re not reading INVINCIBLE IRON MAN, what are you doing with your life?
Hope your holidays are going well, and you’ll hear more from me soon.
