When I came to Los Angeles in 1998 one of my goals was to join the Writers Guild of America. Ten years later I was a part of a small group of writers providing scripted material for hundreds of hours of live television when we organized Comcast’s basic cable slate to join the WGA(W). A few shows made it in, most didn’t unfortunately, but our effort raised rates and compensation for all. I learned a lot spending over a year organizing, and defeat was a bitter pill for me.
I’ve made a good living providing writing services for almost a quarter century, and even though I was nominated for a WGA Award, and even wrote a few of their Awards Shows, I did that as one of the WGA’s Little Lebowski Junior Achievers (and proud we are of all of them). However, I was never a full, permanent member until I received this email…
There’s still a lot of shit to eat three years into the pandemic, so I wanted to take a moment and honor some good news. I want to thank everyone who has hired me for gigs large and small over years, and especially to the fans and retailers that have purchased my comic book collaborations over the years. The announcement of what I’m tinkering with at the moment is not mine to make, but if you’re subscribing to this newsletter, then I think it will put a smile on your face.
Almost a quarter century after arriving in town, and a decade after signing a card.
Feels good.
Here’s some more good news. The Dark Room has printed. Speak to your retailer if you’d like one of our gorgeous new hardcovers.
Here’s a preview of the first dozen or so pages right here for free on Substack.
Maybe we should plan a party for the release of The Dark Room. More soon including an update on the photo book.
