I fell in love with comics because of Frank Miller. I’m fairly confident that I’ve got every comic he’s published in my collection. I cherish them all, and revisit them often.
I bought every Frank Miller cover off the racks whether he had anything to do with the interiors or not. A friend shoved First Comics’ reprint of LONE WOLF AND CUB into my hand, promised me I’d love it, and sent me to new comic book lands. Koike & Kojima are giants, and that collaboration is one of my all-time favorites. I might’ve missed out on LW&C without Frank holding the door open for me. It’s the power of naming what you love, and sharing it. Love is contagious.
Earlier this year in Dallas, I got to spend a few minutes thanking him for his contributions and tell him what his comics mean to me. His work has directly inspired me for years, and that’s true of my latest collaboration, FALLING IN LOVE ON THE PATH TO HELL. Frank enjoyed Garry Brown & Chris O’Halloran work on the book at first glance, and one thing lead to another, and I offered an open invite for a guest cover.
And now, my roller coaster year sends me the highest peak yet…Bleeding Cool has the reveal of Frank’s sublime cover, along with Jock’s brilliant colors:
Final orders are due: 9/23/2024
In-Store Date: 10/16/2024
Lunar Distribution Product Code: 0824IM373
Sincere thanks to Frank, Jock everyone at Frank Miller’s studio especially Silenn Thomas and to Doug Peters and the folks at Comic Sketch Art.
Fans of the comic will not want to miss New York Comic Con this year. I will be signing in Artist Alley just across from Frank (Sunday only) hosted at Comic Sketch Art. Come say hi, and see what limited goodies might be available.
Some other dates of note in the days ahead:
This Wednesday the debut of our fourth issue hits stands, and it expands the world in a big…and puzzling way.
Subversive Girl is our one guest cover next week, and I think that there might have been a printing issue that will see the arrival of her cover be delayed slightly. It’s such a striking cover, and Elliott Gray’s design work remains impeccable. Image Comics will advise as to any lateness for this issue later this week, however Garry’s cover arrives on time this Wednesday.
Looking ahead:on October 2, 2024 the fourth print of our first issue arrives in stores.
This comic will also be joined by the arrival of second prints of two and three. To celebrate, Garry and I will be barnstorming Los Angeles. Visit us at one, or several shops.
Later that evening sometime probably around 5p PST Garry and I will be live on Mike Mayhew’s eBay show. Mike’s almost sold through of his exclusive cover of the first print, and maybe Garry and I can help him sell through that evening. Triple signatures for all.
October’s issue five is the start of our second arc. November continued the danger and thrills in another pivotal issue, plus you’ll have a Phil Noto guest cover to look forward to…
Thanks for subscribing, thanks for the support in the stores, and I’m cooking up a very cool subscriber exclusive for later in 2025. If you haven’t taken the plunge…have a thinking on that.
Yearly subscribers will get a “Duggan blind box” of signed comics (usually variants) and the very last copies of my hardcover book Timing/Luck.
More soon,
GD
I love reading all your newsletters, GD, and this is no exception.
Yes, love is contagious. Congratulations on that cover.
